Race Across the World's Betty was tearful as she revealed that taking part in the show and opening up about her health condition has left her feeling "free".

The 25-year-old took part in the BBC series with her 21-year-old brother James, with the pair one of five teams tasked with racing 15,000km from Japan to Lombok on a budget of around £1,400.

During the series Betty talked about being diagnosed with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MKRH) syndrome, a disorder that affects the female reproductive system, and explained that she has no womb and only one kidney. James became emotional as they discussed it, breaking down and asking a crew member for a hug.

Opening up on ITV's Loose Women, Betty revealed the impact the experience had on her. Panellist Christine Lampard noted that Betty had spent her life focusing on what her body couldn't do, and asked if the show had changed that.

Fighting back tears, she replied: "I feel like, for the first time that I am free." She added: "Like I just finally belong wherever I am."

Betty was diagnosed when she was 16 and James was 11, and they have shared that before Race Across the World, her condition was not something they had really talked about.

James said on Loose Women: “My motto growing up was that everything happens for a reason, and Betty for obvious reasons can’t sort of see that. So having that conversation sort of opened up more doors to different conversations that we have now had and we have been able to understand each other a little bit more.”

Betty said their moving chat during the race was completely natural. She explained: "Everything you see on screen is exactly how that conversation would have gone, because the producers kind of said, 'We are not producing this, just have this conversation naturally.' And we just sat and chatted didn't we?"

"It was a difficult conversation to have," she added.

Betty and James' mum Helen was in the Loose Women audience and told how proud she was of the pair, who ended up coming third in the race, behind winners Alfie and Owen and runners-up Isabel and Eugenie.

Talking about Betty opened up about MRKH, she said: "It was very hard and it still makes me cry even now, just seeing the way that they were both able to open up really, about their emotions, when in society we don't do that. We hide everything in.

"It just makes me really really proud of them."
