Video captures the moment gang of raiders ripped out ATM - loaded with £89,000

This is the moment a gang of raiders ripped out an ATM – loaded with £89,000.

The raiders used a stolen JCB digger to tear a cash machine from the wall of a Co-Op store, strewing debris into the street and leaving a gaping hole in the side of the shop.

The video shows Maurice Rogers, 28, along with four other men, loading the ATM onto a pick-up truck before splitting up and fleeing the scene.

The stolen JCB digger was abandoned outside the store in St Ives, in Cambridgeshire, in the early hours of September 27, 2018, and the raiders made off in two separate vehicles.

Maurice Rogers has been jailed for three years eight months after he removed his balaclava during a smash and grab raid on a shop to steal a cash machine in Bedford.

Police tracked the gang down 22 miles away in Wentworth near Ely, in Cambridgeshire, at which point the driver of the truck ran away.

Police managed to recover the stolen cash before spotting the second car.

The remaining gang members also attempted to evade police but Rogers dropped his balaclava – allowing police to later link him to the crime using forensic analysis.

Rogers, of Bedford, pleaded guilty to burglary and was jailed for three years and eight months at Peterborough Crown Court on February 21.

The four other men have not been identified.

PC Neil Patrick said: “Rogers caused a significant amount of damage in this calculated robbery.

“Fortunately the cash was recovered in this instance and won’t fall into the hands of criminals.”
