Raleigh launching new limited edition Chopper in retro colours for £999

Nottingham's Raleigh bike company is to launch a new limited edition Chopper in two retro colours - Fizzy Lemon and Space Blue. It comes after "significant popular demand" following last year's sale of a remake of the iconic 1970s bike

Raleigh relaunched a near replica of the beloved bike in 2023 following five years of research and product development. Bringing the bike back for the modern day has legally required some small changes but it is as close to the original as possible - with the classic one-piece saddle, mid-frame gear shifter and sissy bar.

The return of the Chopper became headline news as fans flocked to find out how they could get their hands on the bike, issued in Ultraviolet and Infrared. The full run sold out online in minutes, and in-person sales at Raleigh in Nottingham saw overnight queues. The shop in Maid Marian Way closed in November so this time around it will just be online sales.

Due to anticipated high demand, this time Raleigh will be using an online queuing system to enable fans to purchase the ultimate piece of British nostalgia. This year marks 55 years since the launch of the first Chopper, but mention it today and countless people have a special memory or story about the bike.

As part of launching the revived colours for 2024, Raleigh spoke to hundreds of brand fans who shared some of those snippets of history. Michelle Jakeway, activation manager at Raleigh, said: ‘’The Raleigh Chopper really is the iconic bike. Everyone knows it, and countless people have fond memories of the first time they saw or rode one.

‘’When we brought it back last year, the enthusiasm was off the scale, and the limited run sold out in minutes. We’re so excited to be re-introducing two colours this year, Fizzy Lemon and Space Blue.

‘’At Raleigh, our ethos is to create bikes that are fun to ride, and enable people to create memories that last a lifetime. There is no better bike than the Chopper to do just that, and we can’t wait to see the adventures our brand fans will have with these new releases”.

The latest limited edition Chopper will be available to purchase online from raleigh.co.uk/gb/en on July 9 at noon.
