After a lot of speculation over who might be involved with the movie, Ralph Fiennes has been confirmed to be in the cast of 28 Years Later, having been in Newcastle to meet director Danny Boyle.

News that Danny, who won a Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire in 2009, would be filming the 28 Days Later sequel in the North East, arrived when when call outs appeared online for local residents to apply to be in the film, as a series of roles were put up for grabs for people of all ages. Some of the very specific criteria so far have included wild swimmers, farmers and even babies, as applications flooded in from a wealth of parents keen to see their little ones on the big screen.

There was excitement for residents in Rothbury last month when Danny descended on the Northumberland village; being seen with several of his team on the green close to the church, as rumours around just who he would be directing started to come thick and fast.

Given that he was the main star of the 2002 original, Peaky Blinders actor Cillian Murphy is hotly tipped to be in the 28 Years Later cast and now one star who we know for certain to have signed up is BAFTA and Tony Award winner Ralph, who appeared in smash hit 90s films Schindler's List and The English Patient, as well as playing Voldermort in Harry Potter.

The 61-year-old has been snapped at Central Station in Newcastle on his way to catch a train and he's not the only big name to be seen in the city in the last few days. After reports linking her with the movie, Killing Eve and Help star Jodie Comer has also be on Tyneside to meet with Danny, with production set to get going in the very near future.

Other stars to have their names linked to 28 Years include James Bond-tipped Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Newcastle born Sons of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam.
