It's not every day Vera arrives in your street, but that's exactly what happened to the residents of one Blyth housing estate at the end of last week, as filming for the hit drama's final series returned to Northumberland.

A week after it was announced that the much loved ITV show will be coming to an end in 2025, after 14 years of keeping millions gripped, lead actress Brenda Blethyn and co-star David Leon shooting a scene in Cambois, before production switched to Blyth beach and Brenda's body double caused confusion for fans, after they saw DCI Stanhope's famous Land Rover parked nearby.

Over the course of the first week of Vera series 14 filming, the cast and crew were also seen in the Old Town Hall in Gateshead and at Ashington train station, before moving onto South Shields and back to Blyth, after casting calls appeared on Facebook to recruit locals to extra roles.

And Vera's return to Blyth was particularly memorable for people living in the vicinity Crofton Street, as as well as the blue Land Rover being parked up, Brenda's was spotted inside one of the flats, with the silhouette of her character's instantly recognisable fishing hat seen from outside.

Local writer Kara Beecroft spotted the action as she walked by and took a picture which she later shared on social media. Karta captioned her post: "Excitement on the way to work this morning! Filming Vera round the corner from my house" and it got plenty of responses from other Vera fans.

One commented: "I recognise those flats, used to live in Cowpen. Love Vera, reminds me of home" with another replying: "I will miss Vera. What a great ambassador the show has been for the North East. My sisters walked into a cafe in North Shields, it was being set up for a Vera scene. Brenda was there in her hat and raincoat."

Vera's 14trh and final series, which will consist of just two new feature length episodes, is set to air on ITV in early 2025.
