There's a new wave of young male stars flipping red carpet dressing on its head. See Timothee Chalamet and Michael B. Jordan accessorizing with Louis Vuitton’s patterned leather harnesses, singer Olly Alexander blurring the gender divide, and Rami Malek, who has taken his very own approach to step-and-repeat style.

Earlier this year his performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody made him an awards season darling, winning him Golden Globe, BAFTA and Screen Actors Guild awards for best actor. He also scooped up an Oscar for Best Actor.

Now Malek has snagged the role of villain in the upcoming James Bond film. What is known as "Bond 25" but holds no official title yet, will be Daniel Craig's last 007 outing.

Malek's stylist Ilaria Urbinati, who also dresses Donald Glover, Bradley Cooper and John Krasinski, has helped Malek achieve a sharp but individual look - whether he’s rocking a crisp Berluti suit or an unusual bomber jacket. Here's a breakdown of his look.

Malek’s relationship with Dior Homme goes back a few years - he was the face of the brand’s Spring campaign in 2017. Unsurprisingly, he has worn quite a few pieces from the atelier, which at the time was spearheaded by creative director Kris Van Assche.

One of his first head-turning looks was an all-red Dior Homme suit he wore to the 2017 Met Gala.

After Kris Van Assche left Dior Homme to become creative director of menswear label Berluti, Malek followed him with a swathe of Berluti looks - including the memorable ensemble he wore to the premiere of Bohemian Rhapsody.

He’s never too far from his Mr Robot days

Malek has a penchant for dressing in all black, channelling the vibe of his Mr Robot character Elliott Anderson. Though you'd be unlikely to catch Elliot in a suit, Malek's taken on the monochrome palette, bringing embellisments and textures to his looks.

Case in point: the double-breasted Dior look he wore to the Screen Actors’ Guild awards, which was mixed up with glossy leather biker boots.

He also wore an all-black look to the Academy Awards cocktail party, but the patterned shirt and bomber jacket’s checkerboard detailing kept things interesting.

On that note: bomber jackets

From his YSL shearling bomber at a San Franscisco screening of Bohemian Rhapsody to a sleek piece he was spotted in on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Malek often sharpens up the look by layering a collared shirt underneath.

While a white suit isn’t an easy look to pull off, Malek likes to wear his with a contrasting black dress shirt, keeps things modern and fresh.

The actor likes to experiment, wearing a striking patterned dress shirt underneath a suit or layering up the same marbled pattern twice.

Meanwhile, the paisley top Malek wore underneath his blue blazer on a trip to Wimbledon was a perfectly cool off-duty look.

Then there was the ensemble he wore to the American Music Awards: a cool Givenchy check blazer with stylish country vibes.

Whichever red carpet he graces next, you can expect Malek to make a very sharp entrance.
