Rangers transfer news bulletin as Connor Barron deal lands loaded caveat amid Reuell Walters U turn

Barry Ferguson has warned Rangers over the signing of Connor Barron - as he questioned if the out of contract Aberdeen star would "strengthen" the Ibrox midfield.

Record Sport understands that the Scotland under-21 cap is set to make a decision on his future next week - with offers on the table from Serie A, England and the Light Blues. Barron’s Aberdeen contract is set to expire and he can move outside of Scotland for just over £500,000 in training compensation. He's currently on holiday but Rangers have made a strong offer to the player.

The Dons' Scottish Premiership rivals would need to agree a fee with Aberdeen or risk going to a tribunal to agree compensation over a move. But former Ibrox midfielder Ferguson reckons the deal could be a gamble by boss Philippe Clement and director of football recruitment Nils Koppen as they look to revamp the Ibrox squad this summer.

The Record Sport columnist Go Radio: “I think he’s a good young player, is he going to really strengthen the Rangers midfield? It’s difficult when you play for a team like Aberdeen and you come with the pressure and the amount of stuff that is on your shoulders, the demands and expectations.

"He’s a good player, at the price I would probably go and take a chance on him because when I’ve seen Aberdeen, he’s certainly impressed me. But, it is a whole different ball game when you go to Rangers.”

Elsewhere, Rangers holding an interest in out of contract Arsenal talent Reuell Walters - but the Gunners' are reportedly considering a hasty rethink after his contract ran out at the Emirates. The 19-year-old will officially leave the club when his contract expires on June 30, according to reports.

The defender would be available cross-border for around £350,000 in compensation - putting Rangers on red alert this month. However, The Athletic report that the English Premier League giants are considering a hasty U-turn and are will offer Walters fresh terms. They are "confident" a deal can be agreed with interest mounting.

Hammarby's Nathaniel Adjei was also on Rangers radar - but a deal could be off with Lorient looking to bring the defender back to France. The Ligue 1 side had an obligation to buy the defender - reportedly valued at around £3.5million - should they avoid relegation.

But with Lorient dropping to the French second-tier the Ghanaian centre-back was left in limbo. Swedish outlet Sportbladet report that the club have still gone ahead with their option to buy and Adjei will seal his return this summer.
