Rangers transfer news latest as Sam Lammers sees one exit route removed and Couhaib Driouech set for PSV switch

Utrecht have reportedly given up on their attempts to sign Rangers striker Sam Lammers on a permanent basis, and have instead switched their focus onto a new target.

After a poor first half of the season at Ibrox following his £3.5million switch from Atalanta last summer, the 27-year-old returned to the Netherlands in January on a loan deal with Utrecht for the remainder of the campaign. Lammers impact was immediate, and he finished the season with 10 goals in 18 league matches, memorably becoming the first player in the club's history to score in seven consecutive Eredivisie games.

Ro Jans' side had been keen to make his stay a permanent one, but according to De Telegraaf, Utrecht have ended their pursuit of the former Netherlands U21 international in favour of a move for Standard Liege forward Noah Ohio, who scored three goals in eight games in a loan spell at Hull City last season.

Lammers is however the subject of interest from fellow Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, who have had their transfer kitty boosted by the sale of Greece international striker Vangelis Pavlidis to Portuguese giants Benfica for around £18 million. Former PSV Eindhoven and Eintracht Frankfurt frontman Lammers is not the only Rangers attacker with an uncertain future in Govan this summer, with Cyriel Dessers linked with clubs around Europe and in the Saudi Pro League.

Gers boss Philippe Clement has already made five signings so far in the summer transfer window, but is set to miss out on reported target Couhaib Driouech. The forward, who plays for Eerste Divisie side Excelsior, is one of three Moroccan players eyed up by the Light Blues, along with Le Havre midfielder Oussama Targhalline and FAR Rabat striker Hamza Igamane - with the latter's arrival at Ibrox expected imminently.

But Dutch outlet De Telegraaf now report that Driouech is on the verge of joining Eredivisie champions PSV on a five year deal for an initial fee of £3million with future add ons. The Eindhoven club had came very close to landing the 22-year-old - who helped Morocco's U23 side win the Africa Cup of Nations in 2023 - in the final day of January transfer window earlier this year.
