The Saints are coming for Matt O’Riley but Celtic fans aren’t convinced the price is right. Record Sport revealed that Premier League new boys Southampton were preparing a £20million bid that would include add-ons which could potentially take it beyond the record £25m received for Kieran Tierney.

But Hoops fan Paul Price, Belfast, said; “I'd be disappointed if my team accept the £20million bid from Southampton for O’Reilly as he would be hard to replace. I know we've had a laugh at Rangers recently but at least they're signing players early. I hope they don't get Abdallah Sima again because he's a player that could hurt us.”

John Wilson, Glasgow , added: “I know the add-ons could bulk up a £20m move for Matt O’Riley but they are never guaranteed. His performances over the last two years show he is surely worth a minimum £25m up front, especially going by Premier League prices.” But Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “I see O’Reilly’s value has dropped by £15 million overnight, on Sunday he was going for £35 million today it’s £20 million. This time last year we were told Reo Hatate and Kyogo were going to play Angeball for £30 million each!”

Across Glasgow, Rangers have brought in five new signings already as Philippe Clement bids to wrestle the title from Celtic’s grasp. But Tam Williamson, Lanarkshire, said: “Big Phil says he will take away Celtic’s crown? The only way possible to succeed in his demented dream is to break into Celtic Park during the night and try and steal the SPL trophy which WILL rest in Paradise for the unforeseeable future!!? Clement has signed a load of unknown nonentities for peanuts and has uttered so much mince and tripe that he could open his own butcher's shop.”

Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, said: “Ianis Hagi is finished at Rangers and so should Tom Lawrence, Todd Cantwell, Scott Wright and Kieran Dowell. James Tavernier will also go if the price is right.”

Meanwhile, Rangers stadium cock-up that means they could play as many as five home games away from Ibrox during August, remains a hot topic for debate. Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “The SFA should hammer Rangers the same as they did to Dundee while under pressure from their team. Will it happen? No chance, Doncaster will suck up to them. Surely Celtic should be opening the new season as champions and not playing on a Sunday at 4.30pm.”

Onto international matters and the Euro roars on more than a week after Scotland returned with tails between their legs. Georgia gave Spain a fright after Switzerland dumped holders Italy out. The Swiss will now face England in the last eight after Gareth Southgate’s men squeezed past Slovakia.

And Jamie Thompson, Yoker, said: “The quality of football from these so called lesser teams has been brilliant, pity Scottish players are so bad they haven't got the same - it makes you wonder why even try to qualify.” Paddy Gowans emailed: “Bring in you like as the next Scotland manager, it won't make a difference. The talent isn't there and you can't make a silk purse out of a pig’s ear.”

Alan Lough, Dunbar, said: “Well done to Lee Dixon for refusing to be jingoistic like all the other presenters and pundits and tell it as it is by saying England are awful and didn't deserve to win against Slovakia. I feel sorry for the travelling support who have paid thousands of pounds to watch this drivel in Germany.”

And Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, said: “Watching England was dreadful. They scored a great goal but that team will never win the Euros. Spain looks a certainty.”
