Nova Scotia RCMP say they are searching for a man who could be armed in the West Petpeswick area of the province's Eastern Shore.

The Mounties say Brandon Crawford Grant, 26, is wanted on a province-wide arrest warrant for being at large without excuse.

Police say they were called a home on the 100 block of West Petpeswick Road around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday after reports of a man in distress. Officers learned the man had damaged the home with an axe and ran into the woods.

As a precaution, Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital was on lockdown but has since reopened, according to a spokesperson for Nova Scotia Health.

A hold and secure at Eastern Shore District High School has since been lifted, according to an email from the HRCE. Dismissal will take place as usual following the afternoon exam and staff will provide extra supervision for departing students, the email said.

A 3 p.m. update said officers had cleared several locations in West Petpeswick and Musquodoboit Harbour.

Grant is described as six-foot-four and 300 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who sees Grant or has information on his whereabouts is asked not to approach him and to call 911.
