Read Chester Bennington's tragic letter to late friend Chris Cornell
Chester Bennington hanged himself on July 20 in a suicide that has rocked the music world. At just 41 he was regarded as one of the founders of the nu-metal genre and one of the best known rockers in the world.
As well, he was extremely close to Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, who committed suicide in May, also by hanging, and Chester’s death occurred on the same day as what would have been Chris’s 53rd birthday.
A goodbye letter from Chester to Chris that Chester wrote after he learned of Chris’s death was posted on Instagram on the day of his funeral.
It expresses how much he’ll miss him and ‘prays he’ll find peace’.

Friends of Chester, who left behind six children, have previously revealed that the rocker had been ‘deeply affected’ by the death of Chris Cornell.
He sang ‘Hallelujah’ at Chris’s funeral and was godfather to one of his children.
Chester was found at him home in Palos Verdes, California. It is said that he suffered from depression and struggled with substance abuse issues. He is left behind by his wife Talinda and children Jaime, 21, Draven, 15, Tyler, 11, and twins Lila and Lily, six. Chester also adopted Jaime’s half-brother Isaiah in 2006.
