As the last remaining original cast member on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Kyle Richards has heard it all.

Speaking with In The Know by Yahoo’s Gibson Johns backstage at the Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection concert at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City last week, Richards shared that she’s been trying to not think about RHOBH during her time off between seasons, which was extra-long this time around following a particularly heated Season 12 reunion.

“We usually have a month off after the reunion. We’ve now had four months. We’ve never had that. This is the longest break I’ve had in 13 years,” she said. “I have a solid four months off here, and I’ve been spending some time in our new home in Aspen, some time with our friends, some family trips and girls’ trips and just trying to enjoy myself and not think about the show and move on from it.”

Following Season 12, which ended with Kyle and her sister Kathy Hilton not on the best of terms, the extended break was a much welcome gift for the Halloween Ends actress, allowing her to spend more time with people who aren’t connected to the show who make it “easy” to forget about it.

“There are some seasons where I can do absolutely no wrong, and then there are some seasons where people come after me and I deserved it. Then there are times where I don’t feel like I did anything and they’ll still come after me. You just don’t know. It really speaks to what’s going on in the world these days and how people are feeling too,” Kyle told ITK. “I try to just stick with people that know me and know who I am and love me and support me. It’s easy for me to not think about the show. I do keep myself private, oddly enough. I have Kyle on the show and then there’s me alone with my friends. I post a picture and people are like, ‘Where’s Dorit [Kemsley]? Where’s this person?’ And I’m like, ‘I actually have friends who are not on the show, you know!’ It’s been very good for me to have this extra time, for sure.”

That being said, she has been paying attention to some of the rumors circulating around the show, especially as they pertain to casting. While Bravo confirmed that her longtime co-star Lisa Rinna would be exiting the show after eight seasons and that Diana Jenkins was being added to the one-and-done list, the rest of the cast for Season 13 remains a little fuzzy.

“Ayda Field, someone was just talking about her [joining the show],” Kyle told ITK. “I can just tell you that not one thing I’ve read online is true. Not one thing. No rumor about anybody or stories about what happened, not one thing is true. It’s just so funny. I know this after 13 years, but every now and then — even after 13 years — I will be duped and be like, ‘Wait, is this true? I’ve been seeing it so often!’ Yeah, nope. Nothing [being reported] is true.”

Since it began, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has attracted a slew of reports that certain well-known female celebrities were joining the show. Nicollette Sheridan, Heather Locklear, Ali Landry and Kris Jenner are all names that were floated as potential new additions over the years. Last fall, Melanie Griffith’s name joined the list, and Kyle told us that she knows exactly why that rumor started.

“I remember I was talking to Melanie Griffith at the Halloween premiere and I was like, ‘Apparently, I’ve been trying to get you on the show!’ And she said, ‘I saw that everywhere!’ I had never met her, but I saw her on the plane in Aspen and we talked in the airport in Aspen and said hi — we’re both very close to Jamie Lee Curtis,” she explained. “The next thing I know, I’m trying to get her on the show. I have no idea who put that rumor out there, but I would love Melanie Griffith on the show. I said that to her, ‘Well, you never know…’ She said, ‘Well, I’m not a Housewife!’ If you’re reading this, Melanie, come on, let’s do it.”

While Melanie Griffith joining RHOBH remains a far-fetched possibility, there are plenty of intriguing dynamics at play as cameras pick back up to begin filming the upcoming season this month. At the Red Dress Collection concert, we asked Kyle to run through some of the relationships that she hopes to improve this season.

“I feel like Crystal [Kung Minkoff] and I really haven’t had a chance [to get close]. We’ve had moments of not getting along, but when we don’t have those moments, we get along great. We just haven’t gotten close,” she mused. “I feel close to Sutton [Stracke], which I don’t think you see on the show, but we actually are close in real life. They can only use so much in the season, but it was the same thing with Eileen Davidson. We had the best time together, but you didn’t really see us together. Same thing with Sutton. We get along great. She makes me laugh, and we have fun together. The other girls we’ve had years on the show, so we have a relationship. [Then there’s] Garcelle [Beauvais], who I’ve had bumps with. I actually really like Garcelle. We get along great, and we’re good and I’m hoping to get even closer and have more fun with her.”

Finally, there’s the question of what happens now that Rinna is no longer part of the group. While controversial and divisive, especially toward the end of her eight-season run, there’s no denying that she helped to stir the pot and get the drama going. Without her, some fans have questioned how the show moves forward. We asked Kyle about whether Rinna’s exit from Real Housewives opens up any of the group dynamic.

“For me, Lisa Rinna brought a lot to the show. I don’t want that getting lost in what I am going to say. Whenever someone is really tight with another cast member and they leave, then all of a sudden that person who was very close to them is going to have to be more open to other relationships — especially Erika [Girardi], I would say. I’ve always been close with Erika and we had our issues this last year, but people end up leaning on their wingman a lot, so it does open up the door to be closer to other people.”
