Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Real-life Hollyoaks couple Rory Douglas-Speed and Nadine Mulkerrin left for a much-needed getaway after their characters were involved in some hard-hitting storylines.

The pair have jetted off to Ibiza, taking to Instagram to share sun-kissed snaps from the beach, with Mulkerrin calling her partner her "best mate".

The loved-up soap couple are enjoying a break following some pretty intense scenes on the Channel 4 series.

Douglas-Speed, who plays Joel Dexter, is currently involved in a baby loss storyline with his onscreen wife Leela Lomax, portrayed by Kirsty-Leigh Porter.

Porter poured her own heartbreaking experience of losing her daughter Penny-Leigh into the scenes, actively contributing to the storyline in the hope of raising awareness to the signs of distress that could lead to a pregnancy loss.

Porter lost Penny-Leigh at 29 weeks and 3 days in 2018, and welcomed daughter Nala Rai in 2020 with partner Paul Barber.

As for Mulkerrin, her character Cleo McQueen is involved in a coercive control storyline with Abe Fielding. Abe is Cleo's boyfriend who unexpectedly followed her to Chester when she returned to the village earlier in the year.

After professing his feelings for Cleo, Abe has been exhibiting increasingly concerning tendencies, subjecting his partner to controlling and gaslighting behaviour, as well as failing to control his jealousy over her past relationship with his half-brother Joel.

For the story, the soap has joined forces with the Home Office to raise awareness of the government's Enough campaign.

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
