Reality TV star Julie Chrisley to be resentenced in bank fraud and tax evasion case, appeals court rules

The "Chrisley Knows Best" alum appealed her sentence of seven years in prison.

Julie Chrisley might not serve a seven-year prison sentence after all.

The Chrisley Knows Best alum's sentence for tax evasion and bank fraud has been vacated by a panel of three judges from the 11h U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, who ruled that the original judge in Chrisley's 2022 case did not determine it correctly.

According to PEOPLE, who obtained the documents in the case, the judges found that, while Chrisley had been held responsible for the bank fraud scheme in question, there was insufficient evidence that she was involved before 2007.

"Indeed," they wrote, "the government's brief concedes that the evidence shows Julie 'participated in the bank fraud conspiracy from 2007,' not 2006."

The reality TV star will now be resentenced by a lower court.

Both Chrisleys were found guilty in June 2022 of inflating their net worth and seeking loans from smaller banks, which did less vetting, to obtain more than $30 million in fraudulent funds and of evading taxes. In addition, Julie was found guilty of obstruction of justice and wire fraud. Their former accountant, Peter Tarantino, was found guilty of filing false tax returns.

"We're pleased that the Court agreed that Julie's sentence was improper, but we're obviously disappointed that it rejected Todd’s appeal," Alex Little, the Chrisleys' attorney, told EW in a statement. "With this step behind us, we can now challenge the couple's convictions based on the illegal search that started the case."

"The family appreciates the continued support they've received throughout this process. And they're hopeful for more good news in the future," Little concluded.

Todd was sentenced to 12 years for his part in the scheme, and the panel of judges did not call for him to be resentenced.

The Chrisleys' adult daughter, Savannah Chrisley, has kept fans updated on her parents' status through her podcast and social media presence. On Monday, she posted a photo of what appeared to be the court documents to her Instagram Story with the words, "The fight never ends."

The day the decision was announced, she said on social media, that the hearing "didn't necessarily go as we hoped. But we do have a little win."
