Reason man has given £1,000 of his own cash to strangers

A man who hides money around city centres for strangers to find said he does it to spread positivity.

Tom, who wants to remain anonymous in order to successfully keep hiding money, records himself leaving banknotes and waits close by for members of the public to find them. The 30-year-old often films the public’s celebrations.

So far he’s left a total of £1,000 of his money around Liverpool city centre and further afield in Manchester.

Tom said: “I just wanted to do something nice and I really enjoyed people’s happiness when they've found the money. I usually work at a desk job so it’s a nice break form that and it's pure fun.”

Originally starting in Manchester, his Instagram account with 51,000 followers. Tom than began a Liverpool account at the start of March and it already has more than 22,000 followers.

Tom said: “Previously I went out a lot but I stopped drinking recently and used the money I would spend on that in a much nicer way.”

Being from the North West, Tom sticks to areas he likes and aims to vary the hiding locations so everyone can have a chance of finding the money. He said it usually takes 10 minutes after he posts an Instagram story before someone finds the money.

Tom continued: “There's so much negativity in the world at the moment, and people are struggling, so anything you can do to cheer someone up is worth it.”
