Taylor Swift will be bringing her Eras World Tour to Edinburgh next week at Murrayfield Stadium with fans counting down the days until the iconic Love Story hitmaker touches down in Scotland.

The 34-year-old, who is making her return to Scotland for the first time in nine years, will perform her 46 song setlist to lucky fans for three nights from June 7 to June 9.

Despite leaving Scots out of her Reputation World Tour back in 2018, Swift previously revealed that she has some deep celtic roots in her family that she is 'proud' of.

The US singer has also made her love for Scotland known through her choice of pets and the £4.6m castle in Perth she had her heart set on living in while dating her ex-boyfriend and Scots DJ, Calvin Harris.

Here we take a closer look at all the reasons why Taylor Swift is basically Scottish...

Scots Ancestry

Taylor previously stunned her Scottish fans when she revealed she has Scottish ancestry to a Glasgow crowd back in 2015 while she performed her 1989 tour at the OVO Hydro.

The US singer, who hails from the small village of West Reading in Pennsylvania, explained to the audience that her father, Scott Kingsley Swift, had emailed her ahead of the show to inform her of her family's Scottish roots.

She said: “In the subject line it said ‘tell Scotland this’, and in the email he said our whole family is from Scotland and you have to tell them that.

“So I am one of you, and I’m proud because this crowd is amazing.”

During the same gig, she told swifties: “I happen to love Scottish people, personally.”

There are also rumours that Swift is a "direct descendant of Robert II of Scotland" with tweets and social media posts dating as far back as 2013 with this claim.

A website called famouskin.com, which details the ancestry of famous people, also directly connects Swift’s family line to William the Lion, King of Scotland.

Neither claim has been proven but both connect the royal lines to Swift through her father's side of the family.

Despite this revelation, Taylor has not been back to Scotland since which swifties believe may be down to her messy break up with a well known Scots DJ in 2016.

Calvin Harris

Taylor has also made her love for Scotsmen known after she dated beloved Scots DJ, Calvin Harris, who hails from Dumfries for around 15 months from 2015 to 2016.

The former couple had a big social media presence with the Scots DJ, real name Adam Wiles, at the peak of his career at the time.

Taylor and Calvin were branded as the industry's biggest "power couple" at the time of their relationship, overtaking Beyoncé and Jay-Z as the highest-earning romantic duo in the music industry in 2015.

Together, they brought in a jaw dropping £92m in comparison to Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s £70m.

Swift famously sent fans into a frenzy with a Instagram snap of her and Calvin on July 4 with the caption: “Friendly relations between Scotland and America.”

The loved up couple also celebrated their one year anniversary with a romantic getaway to a tropical island.

Unfortunately, the pair later went their separate ways in 2016 with Calvin taking to Twitter to publicly announce their messy split which largely played out in the public eye.

The pair are said to have had a spat over the DJ's song, 'This Is What You Came For' with Rihanna which Taylor co-wrote with her ex-boyfriend.

Tower of Lethendy

Swift, who is known for her love of romance which she often expresses through her song lyrics, is said to have also fallen in love with one particular Scottish castle during her time with Calvin.

The Bad Blood singer is believed to have had her heart set on the £4.6m Lethendy estate near Perth amid fans claims on social media that she has royal blood in her family.

However, it's been stated that she had just hoped to use it as a base in Scotland while she was still dating Harris.

Tower of Lethendy, which stands 14 miles north of Perth, dates all the way back to 1570 and is set on around 40 acres of land.

The castle is situated in the countryside, surrounded by an impressive backdrop of the Grampian mountains.

The picturesque mansion is just a one hour's drive from Edinburgh and near both Edinburgh and Dundee airports.

An insider at the time said Swift was all about “romance” and wanted to buy the Scottish castle so she could embrace her boyfriend’s traditions.

Scottish Fold Cats

There is one other major part of Taylor Swift's life that confirms her love for Scotland and that is her two cats, Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey, who are Scottish Folds.

The singer, who is known for her love of furry felines, is a proud cat mum to the rare breed which first came about in Scotland due to a genetic mutation in the 1960s.

Scottish Folds are generally known for their folded ears and 'round' appearance.

The singer's cats are said to be worth an estimated $97m (£80.6m) according to a new list of the world's richest pets, the Mirror reports.

Ex Calvin Harris is said to have also been very fond of Olivia and Meredith with the singer previously joking she would grant him 'visitation rights to her cats'.

Taylor also has a Ragdoll cat named Benjamin Button.
