Rebecca Watts: Police Search Bristol Lake

Police divers have been searching a lake near the home of a teenage girl who disappeared last week in Bristol.

Rebecca Watts, 16, left home on the morning of 19 February without telling anyone where she was going.

She had her phone, laptop and tablet computer with her but has not made contact and did not take any extra clothing.

Her family reported her missing the following day.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said the search of the pond in St George's Park was "routine and there's no specific intelligence on it".

Dog handlers and mounted officers from three police forces have also been drafted in as the search takes in woodland and open spaces in the Bristol area.

The detective leading the hunt said Rebecca’s disappearance was "totally out of character".

"She has not taken anything that would suggest she was going to stay away for a long period of time," said Detective Inspector Richard Ocone.

Police would not confirm which family members were inside the family house when Rebecca went missing.

Her father, Darren Galsworthy, previously told reporters he was at work at the time.

Mr Galsworthy has suggested on his Facebook page that his daughter may have been attacked.

He wrote: "This is a message to all wives, mothers and girlfriends it was my baby girl's time of the month so if you have washed any blood from your partner's or son's underwear and they can't explain it please imagine if this was your child what would you do please report it."

He also posted saying a white Transit van had been "hanging around" near his home on the day she disappeared.

DI Ocone declined to comment on the messages but insisted police had no information that Becky had been harmed.

"This is very much a missing persons inquiry," he said.

A social media campaign using the hashtag #FindBecky has also swung into action.

Police said some 400,000 tweets had been viewed so far, with two million people seeing the appeal on Facebook.

Facebook adverts are also being used to target people in Bristol.

Becky is described as 5ft 4in and slim, with long, bright red hair and was wearing a dark navy blue Puffa jacket with fabric sleeves.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Avon and Somerset Police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
