Viewers who've rushed to binge The Red King claim to have been 'creeped out' by the new Alibi drama, as it continues to draw comparisons to legendary horror film The Wicker Man.

Filmed in various locations across Northumberland last summer, with cast spotted in the likes of Craster and Alnwick, the six part series made its debut last Wednesday, with the second episode airing on May 1, as well known Geordie actress Jill Halfpenny entered the plot as cynical cop Anne, to assist Grace Narayan. who is trying to get to the bottom of the disappearance of a missing teenager.

The action is set on the fictional island of St Jory, with locals involved in a mysterious cult The True Way and rather sinister traditions that Grace must negotiate as she strives to work out what really went on, coming up against plenty of resistance and unpleasantness from the residents, particular retired inspector Gruffudd Prosser, who is determined to run her out of town.

The second part of The Red King focused on the discovery of the body of missing teen Kai, with Grace refusing to accept that fact that his death was a total accident and then stumbling upon some evidence which backed up her theory that the cult was somehow involved.

Both those viewers who've only seen the two episodes to air so far and those who've rushed to binge watch the whole thing, have been quick to air their thoughts on social media. One who falls into the latter category took to X to post: "I've binge watched #TheRedKing. Sort of #TheWickerMan for the 21st century. Properly creepy."

Equally freaked out and making the same comparison, a second wrote: "Watched all 6 episodes of #theredking on Alibi. Very good. Obvious Wicker Man vibes but really enjoyable."
