The World Snooker Championship final was halted after a spectator was taken ill inside the Crucible Theatre.

The match between Kyren Wilson and Welshman Jak Jones was paused briefly in the 23rd frame when a fan watching in the stands threw up as Jones was at the table.

While the female spectator was attended to and escorted out of the arena by security, match referee Paul Collier halted the final as he approached Jones and told him: "A person in the audience has been taken ill. Do you just want to take a minute?"

At the end of the frame, which Jones won, cleaners arrived to mop up the mess, leading to cheers from the audience. However, that led to a further six-minute delay to the 24th frame getting underway. BBC presenter Hazel Irvine then clarified the reason for the delay to viewers at home.

The final, which started on Sunday, is now heading into its final session, with Wilson leading 15-10. Jones has clawed his way back into the fight after going 7-0 down, winning 10 of the next 16 frames as he looks to complete a stunning turnaround.

Before this year's World Championship, the 30-year-old from Cwmbran had never made the final of any tournament in his career, reaching the quarter-finals at the Crucible last year and losing in the semi-finals of the 2022 Gibraltar Open. Whether he beats Wilson or not, he is set for by far the biggest payday of his career.

The final is best of 35 frames. That means that the first player to win 18 frames will be crowned World Champion. The final session begins at 7pm.
