Watch: Regé-Jean Page reveals how his family reacted to Bridgerton sex scenes

Regé-Jean Page has revealed the experience of watching Bridgerton's sex scenes was "overwhelming" and said he believes fans were "grateful for the intensity of the romantic aspects" of the Netflix smash hit.

But the 31-year-old made sure to warn his family about what was to come on the show.

The first season of Bridgerton, released over Christmas, adapted the first of Julia Quinn's novels set in Regency era England.

Page was at the centre of the story as Simon Bassett, Duke of Hastings, who found himself romantically entangled with Phoebe Dynevor's Daphne — the eldest Bridgerton daughter.

It was the show's racier scenes which got many people talking, and Page has previously admitted to sending alarm emojis to family in an attempt to prepare them.

"No one was sufficiently prepared. I wasn’t sufficiently prepared, and I was there," he joked to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I think people were grateful for the intensity of the romantic aspects of Bridgerton. I’m not sure how grateful I was to watch it for myself.

"It was overwhelming. But I think people were looking to be overwhelmed. My family doesn’t want to be overwhelmed by my backside, specifically, too often, but they’ll take it on this occasion because everyone seems to be terribly happy."

Both Page and Dynevor have spoken about the importance of the show's use of intimacy coordinators in order to ensure that sex scenes were shot in as comfortable a way as possible.

Page told The Graham Norton Show that having someone in that role on set "takes the risk and the embarrassment out of the scene".

Bridgerton's second season is currently being made and, given its success, Netflix has already commissioned the creators to make a third and fourth run.

The show was watched by 83 million accounts in its first month on the platform and therefore stands as the most watched series in the history of the streamer.
