RegScanner review

RegScanner searches the Windows Registry for specific values and displays them in a list view for quick editing: Double-clicking any item in the list opens the correct value in the Registry Editor for nearly foolproof editing. RegScanner can also export Registry values as a REG file that RegEdit can use and even open Clipboard text in RegEdit. Its two-part user interface eases searches by separating options from scan results, especially when RegEdit and other windows are open.

Pros

Opens with Options: RegScanner's Registry Scan Options sheet opens on top of the main view when the program launches. We could specify Base Key, matching items for the search string, and whether to look at values, data, and keys (including Unicode strings in binary values).

Context menus: Right-clicking a key in RegScanner's results opened a context menu that let us delete or export keys and values, save or copy selected items, and create HTML reports.

Fast: RegScanner is usually faster than RegEdit, though shorter, less specific search strings can return numerous results in RegScanner. Fortunately, you can use both from inside RegScanner.

Remote Computer: A checkbox in the Registry Scan Options enables remote PC scans.

Cons

No built-in backup: RegScanner lacks a Registry backup feature, so back up your Registry before using it.

Bottom Line

Inexperienced users can wreak havoc with RegScanner. But experienced users will like RegScanner's specificity and speed, either on its own or in tandem with RegEdit.
