Released Aston Villa midfielder Abube Onuchukwu is set to complete a free transfer to Premier League rivals Ipswich Town, it's been reported. Onuchukwu signed for Villa as an under 13 and then signed a two-year scholarship in 2022.

Last season he scored three goals in 13 under 18 Premier League appearances, but Onuchukwu wasn't offered fresh terms by Villa at the end of the season and, along with the likes of Dylan Mitchell, Chisom Afoka, Frankie Ealing, Taylor-Jay Hart, Aaron O'Reilly, Edward Rowe and Jack McDowell - the latter who has signed for QPR - left Bodymoor Heath.

Onuchukwu isn't going to be out of football for long, though, because TWTD report that he is set to join up with the Tractor Boys' under 21s ahead of the new season. Ipswich secured a return to the Premier League this past season, their second promotion on the spin under Kieran McKenna, and are busy identifying targets to bring into their first-team squad.

In the academy, though, there'll be additions too; as well as Onuchukwu, they've also added defender Leon Elliott from Crystal Palace.

Villa, meanwhile, have earned millions from their academy in recent years, but especially this summer; following on from the sales of Jack Grealish, Cameron Archer, Jaden Philogene, Aaron Ramsey and Carney Chukwuemeka, Villa have already parted with Tim Iroegbunam this summer and are set to sell Omari Kellyman to Chelsea for £19m.
