We can only imagine the chaos that Disney and Lucasfilm have been thrown into with the surprise exit of Star Wars' Han Solo spin-off directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

The film has been shooting since February, so a replacement director will need to be found quickly.

It should come as no surprise then that the rumour mill is already grinding away this morning.

Veteran Star Wars writer Lawrence Kasdan (whose credits include The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens) wrote the film with his son Jon, and has been suggested as a possible replacement.

Rumour has it that he clashed with Lord and Miller on the direction of the Han Solo movie, and he does have some directing experience (on Dreamcatcher and Darling Companion, but never mind).

Ron Howard is also thought to be under consideration. It would give the Apollo 13 director a chance to turn his fortunes around after his In the Heart of the Sea and Inferno slump.

Finally, Jumanji and Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnston's name is being thrown around.

All three are veteran filmmakers who Disney might feel comfortable relying on to turn the Han Solo solo movie around.

The film is currently still scheduled for release in May 2018.
