New restaurant and bar plan for Ayrshire town is given the green light

Plans for a near 100-cover restaurant and bar offering on Prestwick Main Street have been given the go-ahead.

A planning application had previously been submitted seeking a change of use to the former church hall, on the town’s Main Street. Agents in the proposals were JKM Consultancy and the applicant was Mrs Asma Ahmed.

Weeks after the initial application, the proposals for Bute Hall were withdrawn, then resubmitted, because details of the external flue “required to be shown.”

In a supporting statement the agents said the proposals, for Bute Hall, would “help provide a boost to the local economy.”

An extract from their statement said: “The proposed development will enable a currently vacant existing building to be brought back into use and therefore to become economically viable. And the footfall generated by the proposal will enable the use to contribute to the local economy and the vitality and vibrancy of Prestwick town centre.”

Minor alterations to the front entrance were also proposed.

The planning statement continued: “The re-use and adaption of the existing building is considered to have a positive impact upon the environment by removing the need to build an entirely new building.

“The retrofitting of the construction of the building will need to be compliant with current Building Regulations and therefore any works associated with the development will improve the efficiency of the building to meet with current legislation.”

The statement added: “It is considered that the proposed development will generate considerable footfall and due to its central location and access to sustainable forms of transport will contribute to the viability and vitality of the core shopping centre of Prestwick.”

The proposals were approved under delegated powers.
