Restaurant plan for closed-down Stoke-on-Trent Coral bookies

A former bookies could be turned into a restaurant. The Coral branch - on Blurton Road, in Blurton - has closed.

Now a plan has been lodged with Stoke-on-Trent City Council to turn the building into a restaurant. The venue would create 10 new jobs and be open from 11am to 10.30pm.

Staffordshire Police do not want any extension to the proposed opening hours.

A police spokesman said: "The commercial premises is located in what is very predominantly a residential area and is set between residential dwellings. It is not envisaged that this application should unduly negatively impact upon the residential amenity of the immediate dwellings, especially given the main road location and noise associated with passing traffic, as well as the presence of a small number of commercial premises on the opposite side of the road.

"Some parking provision currently exists at the front of the site, which should cater for some customer needs. No doubt, a proportion of customers living sufficiently close by would attend the location on foot.

"Staffordshire Police have no objection to the change of use planning application per se. But to reduce the likelihood for any negative impact upon residential amenity it is requested that a planning condition is imposed restricting opening hours to those proposed within the planning application."

The council is expected to rule on the planning application within weeks.
