A UK chain wants to relocate to a retail park in Llandudno. Shoe Zone is currently based on Mostyn Street in the seaside town.

But the brand says this store isn't large enough for their big format concept which they want to rollout around the UK. They want to move to Parc Llandudno - taking on the empty unit left by TUI when they moved in with Next.

It says it has a trading area of 157sqm at the current unit but would have more than 400sqm of space at the new site. But in order to move the company needs to change existing conditions on unit 9B at Parc Llandudno.

The current planning conditions and deed terms don't allow clothing and footwear to be sold from this unit. They have applied to have this changed in order to push ahead with the move.

An application has been lodged with Conwy council.

Planning agent WSP says that unless the change can be made or an alternative suitable unit found in the town the brand would look to leave Llandudno.

Shoe Zone said its current store can stock 80 products while the larger unit could accommodate 150 products - allowing them to sell the full own range as well as products from other brands. They added that job numbers in Llandudno would increase from six to nine.

The agent said that while Parc Llandudno is defined as being on the edge of the town centre it is located adjacent to the main shopping streets. They added that no suitable available units had been found in the town centre and their current site wasn't large enough to enable an expansion at that location.

Planners will now consider the application.
