Liverpool's latest signing Alisson has revealed the message that Mohamed Salah sent him before the Brazil goalkeeper sealed a world-record transfer to Anfield.

Alisson and Salah played together at Roma during the 2016-17 season before Salah left for Anfield last summer.

Now Alisson has followed his former Giallorossi team-mate to Liverpool in a deal worth up to £65million - a record for a goalkeeper - and revealed that the Egypt international couldn't wait for the keeper to join him at Anfield.

"We didn’t have that much contact after he left Roma. We met again in the game when we were up against each other [in the Champions League in April]," Alisson told Liverpool's official website.

"Yesterday, he sent me a message saying: ‘Hey, what are you waiting for?’ As the negotiations were at an advanced stage, I replied to him straight away saying: ‘Calm down, I’m on my way!’

"I’m really happy to have the opportunity to play alongside him again. As well as being a great player, he is a huge character and a great person - which is the most important thing.

"To be with these great people and players day to day is fantastic for me."

Alisson had previously said of the deal: "I'm really happy, it's a dream come true to wear such a prestigious shirt for a club of this size that is used to always winning.

"In terms of my life and my career, it's a huge step for me being part of this club and this family. You can be certain that I'll give my all."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp pronounced himself "very pleased" after a 2-0 friendly win over Blackburn, adding: "We didn't sign him because he's good-looking, a nice fella, his English is good; we signed him because he's a world-class goalkeeper.

"We are really happy that the club gave us the opportunity to do so."

Roma sporting director Monchi had insisted that the club could not say no to Liverpool's advances, a year after they so dramatically strengthened the Reds by selling them Salah.

“The offer was way above the market average - it was very significant,” Monchi said of the deal, worth an initial £56m, a fee which massively eclipses the previous record of £33m paid by Juventus for Gianluigi Buffon in 2001.

“We weighed up the pros and cons and decided to speak to Liverpool in order to come to an agreement. Does it show a lack of ambition? Not for me. Our ambition remains unchanged.”
