Ricardo Pereira could join Tottenham in £22m transfer if Kyle Walker moves to Manchester City

FC Porto are confident Tottenham will pay the £22million asking price for Ricardo Pereira if they sell Kyle Walker to Manchester City.

If Walker leaves as expected, Mauricio Pochettino wants another right-back to provide competition for Kieran Trippier.

Pereira, 23, has spent the last two seasons on loan at Nice, and has been capped by Portugal at senior level. He is thought to have been recommended by Tottenham’s head scout, Steve Hitchen, who is a specialist in French football.

Pereira can play in either full-back position, though he is stronger on the right side, as well as further forward on the flanks. Spurs are keen to give Trippier a chance to establish himself if Walker goes, but would also like experienced back-up.

Kyle Walker-Peters was part of England’s Under-20 World Cup-winning squad and is highly-regarded, but he has yet to make a first-team appearance for Spurs.

Standard Sport reported on Wednesday that City and Spurs remain about £10m apart in their respective valuations of Walker.

City have proposed about £40m, with Spurs holding out for closer to £50m.
