Ricky Gervais designs eco-friendly tshirt for trophy hunting campaign

Beloved British comedian and animal rights activist Ricky Gervais has designed an exclusive, eco-friendly t-shirt, to raise awareness about British Trophy Hunters and support for the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting.

The limited-edition t-shirt, part of an exclusive and sustainable collection of casual wear designed by Ricky Gervais himself, aims to drive donations and raise awareness of the Campaign’s efforts to ban the import of animal trophies. Ricky has been vocal about his opposition to trophy hunting and is a supporter of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting.

Every year, hundreds of animals including endangered lions, elephants, giraffes, and polar bears are killed by British trophy hunters, and current legislation permits British hunters to import the remains of these animals into the UK for taxidermy and trophy display in their homes.

This year’s General Election coincides with the week of the 9th anniversary marking Cecil the lion's killing.

The Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting is calling on whoever wins the election to bring in an immediate ban on hunting trophies.

It has again persuaded the Conservatives and Labour to include pledges in their manifestos, as it did in 2019. However, a bill which passed unanimously in the Commons last year was then thwarted by a small group of pro-hunting Lords - despite having the backing of 9 out of 10 voters.

Ricky Gervais says: “There are few things as immoral in the world as shooting an animal just for fun, and then bragging about it. It’s sickening, cowardly and downright deranged.

"Elephants are amazing creatures and they’re also endangered. That’s why I’ve designed this t-shirt. I hope people buy them and help the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting expose and end this so-called sport for good.

"It’s not just American dentists who go around killing for kicks. British trophy hunters are among the prolific in the world when it comes to killing elephants. It’s just unbelievable, and it’s got to end right now.”

Ricky Gervais’ collection was made with environmentalism and sustainability at its heart, so every piece is made to order to avoid unnecessary waste.

The garments, made from organic cotton, are produced using renewable energy and can be returned to the supplier, Teemill, when they are no longer being worn.

Alongside Ricky Gervais, the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting has an army of loyal supporters including legendary explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE, Downton Abbey actor Peter Egan, Dame Judi Dench and Dame Joanna Lumley.
