Riot Police Pepper Spray Protesters During Close-Range Clash (File)

Riot police and protesters clashed outside Sai Wan Ho station in Hong Kong on August 12, as seen in this footage shared by a local media group.

Police can be seen pepper spraying protesters at close range before a chair is thrown towards police from the crowd. The video does not show what led to the confrontation.

The mass protests started in March, against a proposed extradition bill that would allow people to be sent to mainland China for trial, and grew in strength, with hundreds of thousands participating in multiple rallies.
