A Netherley road has been closed after a car lost control and ploughed into a lamppost.

Merseyside Police and Merseyside fire and Rescue were called to Childwall Valley Road shortly after the incident, which took place at 8.39pm today, May 6. Footage seen by the ECHO showed the black car turning the corner onto Caldway Drive near Lea Park Golf Club before skidding onto the pavement and crashing into a lamppost, knocking it down.

The car then flipped onto its side and crashed into the garden wall of a nearby house.

A Merseyside police spokesman said two people travelling in the car, a man and a woman, suffered minor injuries.

The road remained partially closed as of 9.45pm as authorities waited for recovery services to arrive.

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue service spokesman said: "Fire crews were called to a road traffic collision in Netherley this evening.

"Crews were alerted at 8.44pm and on scene at 8.46pm, with two fire engines and the search and rescue team in attendance. Crews arrived to find a car on its side against a wall. One occupant of the vehicle was out of the vehicle when crews arrived, another was trapped inside the vehicle.

"Crews stabilised the vehicle and removed the boot to access the casualty who was conscious and breathing, while the other casualty received treatment from North West Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital for further treatment. The trapped person was then able to crawl from the vehicle with no apparent injuries. Fire crews left the incident at 9.39pm."

In November 2023, The ECHO reported residents' complaints about the area, as there had been "dozens of accidents" on the sharp bend.

Laura Collard, 36, said: "We have lived here for four or five years, and when we first moved in we were told that a car had gone through the back fence around three years before. We didn't think much of it until it happened while we were living there.

"We have had to install a CCTV camera just in case a car comes through the back. We have caught cars going through next door's back wall, and people who live over the road from us.

"We don't use our back garden anymore just in case somebody comes through, we're lucky to have a front garden we can use. Our next door neighbours don't even mow their grass anymore or go out the back because it just happens over and over again. It's scary."
