All the road closures and restrictions as Ironman 70.3 comes to Bolton

Several roads are set to be closed this weekend as the popular triathlon, Ironman, returns.

In just less than a week, more than 2,000 athletes will descend on Bolton to compete in the Ironman 70.3 race on Sunday, June 30.

There are also more than 1,200 athletes set to take part in the Night Run on Friday June 28, followed the worlds largest IronKids race with almost 6,000kids taking part on Saturday, June 29.

People attending the events are being advised to plan their journey around Bolton and the surrounding areas ahead of time to avoid issues with road closures.

Diversions will also be signposted so drivers can travel around the area with ease.

Road closures and restrictions include:

June 28 from 6am to July 1 at 9am:

  • For its full length: Victoria Square North, Le Mans Crescent, Old Hall Street North, Victoria Square South, Coronation Street, Howell Croft North, Howell Croft South.

  • Ashburner Street from Howell Croft South to Blackhorse Street.

  • Suspension of bus lanes: Blackhorse Street from Ashburner Street to Deansgate.

  • Suspension of one way street: Queen Street for its full length.

June 28 from 4pm to June 30 at 6pm:

  • Gas Street: from the western side of Hanover Street for a distance of two metres there will be a prohibition of driving in place.

June 28 from 6am to July 1 at 9am:

  • Suspension of taxi stands: Howell Croft North, Bradshawgate.

  • No waiting at any time expect taxis: 24 hours: Bradshawgate.

June 28 5.30pm to 9pm: Road closures:

  • Deansgate from Central Street to Bridge Street.

  • Knowsley Street from Deansgate to St. Georges Road.

  • Bark Street from Knowsley Street to Chorley Street.

  • Back of Bark Street from Noel Street to Knowsley Street.

  • Noel Street from Bark Street to the back of Bark Street.

  • Duke Street from Bark Street to St. George’s Road.

  • Chorley Street from Brink’s Place to White Lion Brow.

  • White Lion Brow from Chorley Street to Spa Road.

  • Blundell Street from St. Edmund Street to King Street.

  • St. Helena Road from Chorley Street to Bark Street.

  • St Edmund Street from Deansgate to St Helena Road.

  • King Street from Deansgate to Blundell Street.

  • Back of King Street from Deansgate to Blundell Street.

  • Pool Street from St Helena Road to Bark Street.

  • Corporation Street from Knowsley Street to Bridge Street.

  • Market Street from Corporation Street to Hotel Street.

  • Hotel Street from Market Street to Mealhouse Lane.

  • Mealhouse Lane from Hotel Street to Deansgate.

June 28 from 6pm to 9pm:

  • One way street: Spa Road for its full length, there is permitted travel westbound.

June 29 from 9am to 5pm: Road closure:

  • Churchgate from Silverwell Street to Bradshawgate.

June 30 from 6am to 6pm: Road closure:

  • Spa Road from Mayor Street to White Lion Brow.

June 30 from 6.30am to 11am: Road closures:

  • Platt Lane from the borough boundary to Park Road.

  • Park Road from Waters Nook Road to Manchester Road (A6)

June 30 from 7am to 11am:

  • One way traffic on the eastbound: Manchester Road A6 from Park Road to Bolton Road.

June 30 from 7am to 11.15am: Road closures:

  • Bolton Road from Manchester Road (A6) to Chew Moor Lane.

  • Chew Moor Lane from Bolton Road to St. John’s Road.

  • St. John’s Road from Chew Moor Lane to New Tempest Road.

  • New Tempest Road from St. John’s Road to Tempest Road.

  • Tempest Road from New Tempest Road to Rumworth Road.

  • Rumworth Road from Tempest Road to Regent Road.

  • Regent Road from Rumworth Road to Chorley New Road.

June 30 from 7am to 12pm: Road closures:

  • Park Road from Chorley New Road to Gilnow Road.

  • Mayor Street from Park Road to College Way.

June 30 from 7am to 12.30pm:

  • One way traffic northbound: Beaumont Road from Baysdale Avenue to Chorley New Road.

June 30 from 7am to 1pm: One way streets:

  • Chorley New Road from Beaumont Road to De Havilland Way. Permitted travel westbound.

  • De Havilland Way from Mansell Way to Chorley New Road. Permitted travel southbound.

June 30 from 7am to 1pm: Road closures:

  • Chorley New Road from De Havilland Way to Crown Lane.

  • Victoria Road from Chorley New Road to Old Kiln Lane.

  • Old Kiln Lane from Victoria Road to Chorley Old Road.

June 30 from 7am to 1.30pm: Road closures:

  • Chorley New Road from Beaumont Road to Hill Side.

  • Chorley Street from Chorley New Road to Royal Court Drive.

June 30 from 7am to 5.30pm: Road closures:

  • Chorley New Road from Hill Side to Chorley Old Road.

  • Chorley Street from Queens Park Walk to White Lion Brow.

  • White Lion Brow from Chorley Street to Marsden Road / Moor Lane.

  • St. Helena Road from Chorley Street to Pool Street.

  • Blundell Street from St. Edmund Street to King Street.

  • King Street from Blundell Street to Deansgate.

  • The back of King Street from Blundell Street to King Street.

  • St. Edmund Street between Deansgate and St. Helena Road.

  • Bark Street from St Helena Road to Knowsley Street.

  • Knowsley Street from St. Georges Road to Deansgate.

  • Deansgate from Howell Croft North to Knowsley Street.

  • Corporation Street from Market Street to Knowsley Street.

June 28 from 6am to July 1 at 9am: No waiting at any time, both sides of the street:

  • Spa Road from the junction with Mayor Street to the junction of Gilnow Grove.

  • Sterratt Street from the junction of Park Road to the junction of the back of Gilnow Road.

  • Back of Spa Road west for its entire length.

  • Bridgewater Street from the junction of the back of Spa Road West to the junction of Edith Street.

  • Gilnow Road from the junction of Sterratt Street for a distance of 100m in the westerly direction.

  • Spa Road from the junction of the back of Spa Road West for a distance of 25m in an easterly direction.

June 29 from 11pm to June 30 at 5.30pm: No waiting times at any time on both sides of the street:

  • Chorley New Road from Hill Side to Chorley Old Road.

  • Bark Street from Knowsley Street to Duke Street.
