Road shut off as emergency services descend on smash

A huge emergency services response descended on a road in Bury this evening (Friday) after a crash.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Bury New Road, Whitefield at around 8.35pm. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said the smash involved two cars.

Pictures taken from the scene show a large number of emergency services vehicles in attendance, with the main road closed off amid the response. Images show one car on its side on the pavement. Further details about the incident or the condition of those involved have not been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 8.35pm on Friday (June 14) one fire engine from Bury Community Fire station attended a crash involving two cars on Bury New Road, Whitefield.

“Firefighters assisted Greater Manchester Police in making the vehicles and surrounding area safe and were in attendance for around 45 minutes.”

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for more information.
