Roadworks on this busy Stoke-on-Trent route spark rush-hour 'chaos'

Motorists faced huge delays on a busy Stoke-on-Trent road this morning as work got underway. Engineers are currently on Ford Green Road in Smallthorne where temporary lights have been set up.

And drivers caught up in the roadworks - near the junction of Spragg House Lane - say it added a time to their journeys. Taking to social media, one motorist said it had caused 'chaos'.

According to roadworks monitoring site One Network the lights went up yesterday afternoon and could remain in place until May 3. The scheme is being overseen by gas provider Cadent and it is understood they are emergency works.

It isn't the first time the stretch had been dug up. Back in May last year StokeonTrentLive reported how temporary lights were running near the Spragg House Lane junction for what Cadent had described as a 'big investment programme' to replace old gas mains.

That project lasted around eight weeks.
