Robbie Savage highlights 'terrible' Leeds United record that Daniel Farke needs to address

Will it be sixth time lucky for Leeds United in the play-offs? The Whites are 90 minutes away from securing a Premier League return after overcoming Norwich City in a two-legged semi-final.

Thursday's 4-0 thumping of the Canaries at Elland Road sealed United's first Wembley trip for 16 years. They will take on Southampton at the national stadium on May 26 after Russell Martin's troops defeated West Bromwich Albion 3-1 in their semi-final second leg on Friday.

Writing in his weekly Daily Mirror column, pundit Robbie Savage said: "Although I always get stick when I go to Leeds, I want to see them back in the Premier League. It's a proper football club with a huge fanbase and a proud heritage - and they are 90 minutes away from returning to the big time after their play-off semi-final demolition of Norwich.

"But - and there is a big but - Leeds have a terrible record in the play-offs, a 100 per cent record: Five attempts at winning promotion, five failures. They have lost two finals against Watford and Doncaster, plus two semi-finals against Derby (in the Spygate drama) and Millwall, as well as the inaugural two-legged final against Charlton Athletic.

Daniel Farke will have 37 years of unkind history to sweep away at Wembley next weekend. But if he takes Leeds back to the promised land, and wins his third promotion in six years after doing it twice with Norwich, only Neil Warnock (promoted four times with Cardiff, QPR, Sheffield United and Notts County) will have been promoted from the Championship more often."
