Rogue One is coming to Netflix in the US.

However, it may be a while before fans get to watch another Star Wars Story on the streaming site. Here's why.

Back in 2012, Netflix and Disney (which owns Lucasfilm) signed an agreement granting Netflix exclusive US pay-TV rights to stream all Disney movies, which would now include Rogue One and all future Star Wars movies.

As such, the streaming service has announced that US Netflix subscribers will be able to stream Rogue One starting July 18.

There's just one catch...

The deal between Netflix and Disney, while brokered in 2012, didn't actually come into effect until September 2016, and only covers films that hit theatres from 2016 and beyond (via Polygon).

Consequently, The Force Awakens (which hit cinemas in December 2015) will not be included in this deal, meaning fans may have to wait for The Last Jedi to watch another film from the latest Star Wars revival on the service.

It could be worse for US viewers though – since there's still no word yet on when the galaxy far far away is coming to Netflix UK.

For subscribers looking for their Star Wars fix, it isn't all bad news, as Rogue One isn't actually the first Star Wars film to be released on Netflix.

The 2008 CG-animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars is available to stream on the site, as well as the television series of the same name.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be available to stream on Netflix US from July 18.
