Roman Kemp has confirmed his first move since emotionally quitting his job on Capital FM. The presenter was left in tears last month when he hosted his last show alongside Sian Welby and Chris Stark, 10 years after presenting his first programme for the Global station.

Roman joined Capital in 2014 when it was still a London station, before hosting the prestigious The Capital Evening Show in 2016. He moved to Capital Breakfast in 2017 before the show launched nationwide in 2019.

He announced the news of his exit in mid-February while live on the Capital Breakfast show, saying: "What I can tell you is I’m not saying goodbye right now, I’m not leaving the show today and that’s it, but it’s not far away. It will come and that goodbye will come in five to six weeks. It’s not a decision that has come overnight either, it’s massive, I’ve not found it easy at all.

"Capital is my family, you as the wonderful listeners that you’ve been, you’ve been with me at my best times and my absolute lowest … Capital and Global have helped change me. I was 22 years old when I first joined Capital and it’s built me into the man that I am today, it is all that I know. But I know that now is the right time to leave and now is the right time to move on."

He has since said it felt like he was "living that same day over and over again" since his friend and producer on the show Joe Lyons passed away in 2020. Roman, who left the station on March 28, also said he needed time for "himself" after waking up early for seven years to do the Capital FM Breakfast Show, adding to the Mirror: "I've tried to spin the plates and tried to do everything and I've realised it's getting in the way of my life."

Now, Roman has revealed his first move since leaving his long-standing radio job. After a month off, The One Show host is about to make his return on a new podcast - working with his legendary musician and actor dad Martin Kemp. The father-son duo, who have previously appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox, have announced they're launching their new FFS! My Dad Is Martin Kemp weekly podcast next Wednesday (May 1).

The new show will feature Roman quizzing his dad with "questions about life to immortalise all his brilliant advice in podcast form, in hopes of sharing with his own children one day". The pair will cover everything from death and parties to marriage and space, with "nothing off the table", they said, as Martin spills all the secrets from his time on telly and as the guitarist of nineties pop group Spandau Ballet.

Talking about the new project, Roman said: " I did the podcast because people are always telling me that my dad being the celebrity that he is and the ‘legend’ that they say he is, I should always take as much advice off him as possible, so I always wanted to make sure that I knew everything about different subjects and advice that he would give me after he’s dead."

Roman continued: "Because let’s be honest, we all die, and at some point, he thinks within the next 14 years, he’s gonna die. So why not write it all down? And also, given the title, I wanted to be able to say that it’s quite annoying having to get all this knowledge just because of who he is. So, it quite literally is ‘FFS’!"

In the first episode, listeners will hear Roman ask his dad a load of questions around death as Martin opens up about his own health battles, and the song he's picked "to go out on". Martin said: "For so long people have asked me, 'Why aren’t you and Roman doing a podcast?' well here it is, from our living room sofa to the Gogglebox sofa to the erm.. the sofa...

"When Roman first told me he had an idea, I should have guessed it wasn’t going to be your normal podcast! We both cried with laughter making this, I hope you enjoy it just as much!" Martin also confirmed the news on social media, writing: "When @romankemp said he had an idea! FFS, I should have known!!! Airs MAY 1," while Roman joked Justin Bieber declined his request to do a podcast with him so was left 'stuck with his dad'.
