Rory McIlroy's odds for the upcoming PGA Championship have been dramatically cut following his commanding victory at Quail Hollow. The Northern Irish golfer delivered a masterclass performance on Sunday, carding 6-under in his final round to secure a five-stroke win over Xander Schauffele, marking his fourth career triumph at Quail Hollow.

Having ended a year-long drought on the PGA Tour, McIlroy has now claimed victory in consecutive starts, including a team win with Shane Lowry at the Zurich Classic a few weeks prior. Despite well-known challenges in major tournaments, McIlroy is heading back to the scene of his last major win, aiming to end a decade-long wait for his fifth major title at Valhalla this week.

His recent form has attracted significant betting interest, and although Scottie Scheffler remains the favourite to clinch his second consecutive major at 7/1, McIlroy is hot on his heels as a strong contender reports the Irish Mirror.

BetVictor spokesperson Sam Boswell noted: "Rory McIlroy's stunning performance at Quail Hollow on Sunday has seen the four-time major winner come in from 10/1 to 7/1 to win this week's PGA Championship. Only Scottie Scheffler (4/1) can boast shorter odds than the Northern Irishman, with Brooks Koepka third at 12/1."

Ludvig Aberg and Xander Schauffele are priced at 16/1 and 18/1 respectively to clinch their first major this week, with Jon Rahm (20/1) and Collin Morikawa (22/1) also tipped as top contenders for the title in Kentucky.

Reflecting on his performance, McIlroy told Sky Sports: "I just went on a run that for whatever reason I'm able to go on at this golf course. Quail Hollow (and) Charlotte in general have been really good to me. Coming into this week, at a golf course I am comfortable with, my golf swing feels more comfortable than it has done."

Looking ahead, he added: "Going to a venue next week where I have won, it feels like the stars are aligning a little bit. But I have a lot of golf to play and a lot of great players to try to beat. I am going into the next major of the year feeling really good about myself."

The latest odds from BetVictor for the 2024 US PGA Championship are: Scottie Scheffler at 4/1, Rory McIlroy at 7/1, Brooks Koepka at 12/1, Ludvig Aberg at 16/1, Xander Schauffele at 18/1, Jon Rahm at 20/1, Collin Morikawa at 22/1, with others (BAR).
