Surrey have announced the signing of 35-year old Rikki Clarke, nearly 10 years he left the county where his career began.

Clarke, who played 20 ODIs and two Test Matches for England, has played for Derbyshire and most recently Warwickshire, where he has been since 2009.

The all-rounder has scored 6,769 runs in first-class cricket at an average of 33.11, and has taken 391 wickets at 33.27.

He has been in fine form for Warwickshire recently, scoring 83 and taking five wickets in their last County Championship match against Middlesex earlier this month.

It marks an emotional return to Surrey for Clarke, whose form there in his first spell was enough to earn a call from the England selectors for both five-day and one-day forms of the game.

“I’ve had nine very good years at Warwickshire and would like to thank everyone there – but I’m really excited to be coming home to Surrey," said Clarke.

“I’ve always said that the crest on the front lives longer than the name on the back and having started at nine years of age I’m delighted to be coming home and joining a young and talented side.”

His ability with bat and ball will come in especially handy for Surrey in the T20 Blast, where they currently lie second in the South Group, ahead of their decider against first-placed Glamorgan on Friday, August 4.
