Roy Keane accused Scotland skipper Andy Robertson of taking RUBBISH in his post match interview after his side flopped in their Euro 2024 Group A opener, going down 5-1 to hosts Germany in Munich.

Manchester United and Republic of Ireland legend Keane savaged Liverpool defender Robertson after he said they had a gameplan against the Germans that didn't work out, having said pre-match they were ready to create history in this tournament by becoming the first Scotland team ever to reach the knockout stage.

They still have that chance in their final two fixtures against Switzerland and Hungary but Keane pulled no punches with a no-nonsense assessment for ITV. Keane said: "Andy Robertson spoke at the end of the game saying they had a gameplan. It's well and good having a plan. He said they weren't aggressive enough You have to be aggressive in a game of football. When you're up against opposition who are much stronger than you... being aggressive is part of football.

"I love watching skilful players. I absolutely love it and the talent we saw with the Germany players - because they were given time - is great to watch but my goodness when you're playing football at this level you've got to hit people, hit them properly, hit them aggressively, do it in the right way. You step off against them like Scotland did tonight... it's no good talking after the game saying 'we had a gameplan'. It's all just rubbish coming out.

"You knew before the game what was at stake. And after the game there's no point in saying we'll regroup and be angry tomorrow. No, you should be angry for a long time. You spoke before the game about creating history. You're creating history alright - by playing as bad as that, letting your manager and supporters down. Football is a physical game, they didn't lay a glove on them."

Robertson said earlier: “We’ll take tomorrow to be angry and disappointed, Then we will try to be positive and go again. Maybe it’s a reminder about how tough this tournament is. Obviously last time it was different but you are playing against world class teams.

“They showed that, their big players showed up all over the park. They made it difficult for us and had an answer for pretty much everything we had. Sometimes that happens but I don’t think we played to our maximum – which you have to do against pot one teams. We have to dust ourselves down. We have five days to sort ourselves out because it will be another tough test against Switzerland.”
