'Royal Wedding' Is Top Google Search In UK

Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding was the most popular Google search in Britain this year, the internet giant has revealed.

'Royal Wedding' beat 'iPhone 5' and 'Fifa 12' to top Google's annual survey of the most inquired about new terms.

The Duchess of Cambridge was also one of the most Googled celebrities in the UK, although she finished behind singer Adele in the fastest-rising people category.

American reality TV star Kim Kardashian was the most searched for celebrity in 2011, followed by Victoria Beckham, Emma Watson and Scarlett Johansson.

The Office creator and star Ricky Gervais was the only man in the top 10 celebrity list.

The X-Factor and The Apprentice topped the list of most searched for TV programmes in Britain.

Google's 2011 Zeitgeist also reveals what people in Britain most wanted to know.

Top searches for 'How to...' included revise, draw, sleep, flirt, pronounce and wallpaper.

The most searched for 'What is...?' list was topped by 'What is AV?' with 'What is scampi?' in second place. 4D, Apple iCloud, truffles and piles also made an appearance.

The top searched-for travel destination was Las Vegas, with New York and Disneyland Paris making up the top three.
