Russell Brand has reaffirmed that he wants to let his daughter Mabel decide her own gender as she grows.

The comedian and his fiancée Laura Gallacher welcomed daughter Mabel last year, and they have both settled for a quiet life in the country.

However, Brand has previously talked about raising their child gender-neutral, and in an interview on This Morning today (February 3), he explained further.

"Now that I have these very important women in my life I have re-evaluated the way that I unconsciously looked at gender," he told hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes.

"I've got a daughter and think 'oh wow I don't necessarily need to dress her in clothes that are necessarily indicative of her gender'. Why would you? Just see how she formulates. I've become quite sensitive to that and aware of it."

He also admitted that he had always wanted to be a father, though pointed out: "There was something about my lifestyle that meant it would never come up".

However, he added that he was "very grateful" to now be a first-time dad.

The 41-year-old previously said of raising his child: "Let the child grow up and be whatever the hell it is, never tell it there is such a concept."

Brand is due to go out on a 71-date tour of the UK and Ireland in the next year called Re: Birth. You can find more details here.
