Former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies is back with another new drama, and the trailer has just been released.

Years and Years is a six-part series that will follow one family over 15 years, with each episode jumping ahead by a year or two.

Although the drama will explore a country going through political and economical instability (we know, we know, we've got enough of that in real life), it will be full of warmth and humour and a positive outlook.

As you can see, this one has a solid cast. Emma Thompson as controversial celebrity-turned-politician Vivienne Rook is a genius idea. Rory Kinnear is always good value, we love Jessica Hynes and Ruth Madeley, and Anne Reid is a Coronation Street legend.

The series will follow the lives of Daniel (Tovey), Stephen (Kinnear) and Celeste (T'Nia Miller), sisters Rosie (Madeley) and Edith (Hynes), Gran Muriel (Reid) and the family's children as their complex lives converge on one crucial night in 2019.

Over the next 15 years, the twists and turns of everyday life are explored as we find out if this ordinary family could ever change the world.

RTD made his TV comeback last year with the excellent A Very English Scandal, which adapted an unbelievable but true story from British political history, and featured Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw leading the cast.

We don't have to wait too long for Years and Years to hit the small screen, as it is set to begin in May on BBC One.

Judging by early reactions from those who attended an early screening, Years and Years is RTD at his best, and we cannot wait.
