A Russian ‘doomsday weapon’, built to spread radioactive poison over large areas, was accidentally revealed during a TV broadcast.

Plans for the top-secret ‘Status-6’ missile were visible over a senior Russian Army officer’s shoulder in a televised meeting with Vladimir Putin.

The Kremlin has said the plans should not have been shown, and the diagrams have since been removed from the broadcast.

The document showed detailed plans for the missile, headed ‘Oceanic Multipurpose System Status-6’.

The plans said that the missile could, ‘destroy important economic installations of the enemy in coastal areas and cause guaranteed devastating damage to the country's territory by creating wide areas of radioactive contamination, rendering them unusable for military, economic or other activity for a long time.’

Dmitry Peskov, the Russian president’s press secretary said, ‘It's true some secret data got into the shot, therefore it was subsequently deleted.

‘In future we will undoubtedly take preventive measures so this does not happen again.’
