Ruth Langsford encourages husband Eamonn Holmes as he walks in harness

Ruth Langsford assured Eamonn Holmes that his hard work would “pay off” as he shared a snap showing him walking in a harness following his back surgery.

The GB News presenter had a procedure to relieve pressure on his sciatic nerves last year after a long struggle with “draining and debilitating” back pain.

He returned to work in January after four months convalescing but told viewers he was still having trouble walking.

Holmes, 63, has kept fans updated on Instagram as he trains and works to regain his balance, and his latest snap showed him walking while strapped into a blue harness.

“Learning to walk with purpose today,” he captioned the shot.

“Gosh I'm trying so hard. The harness gives me more confidence than I have.”

“Wish me well,” he added.

Several fans posted messages of support after the star’s post.

And his wife Langsford also chimed in with some sweet words of encouragement.

“We can rebuild him!” wrote the Loose Women star.

“Hard work will pay off x.”

TV star Carol Vorderman was among those to comment, and said she was sending “hugest love and strength”.

Singer and presenter Cheryl Baker added: “Oh Eamonn! If good wishes can help, you have them in bucket loads! It seems so recent that you were doing 10,000 steps a day."

"Honestly mate, sending so much love, strength and perseverance to you," she added.

Holmes had suffered chronic pain from back problems and had been walking a cane before he had back surgery in September.

Not long afterwards he fractured his shoulder after suffering a fall at home.
