All About Ryan Gosling's Sister, Mandi Gosling
The 'Barbie' actor's sister Mandi has attended many events with him over the years, including being his date to the 2024 Oscars
Ryan Gosling’s sister Mandi is one of his biggest supporters.
Over the years, the Barbie actor’s sibling has been his go-to date to some of Hollywood’s biggest events. Recently, she accompanied him to the Oscars where he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Ken in the Greta Gerwig-directed film (while his longtime partner Eva Mendes cheered him on from home).
Ahead of the Oscars, Gosling made the red carpet a family affair as he posed alongside his mother Donna and sister. Mandi was also seen laughing alongside Margot Robbie and Billie Eilish in the crowd as Gosling gave an electrifying performance of his Oscar-nominated hit “I’m Just Ken.”
Gosling and his sister have a super tight bond; he previously told The Independent that Mandi was his “best friend and my hero growing up.”
Here’s everything to know about Gosling’s sister.
Like Gosling, she grew up in Ontario, Canada
The siblings were born about three years apart and raised in London, Ontario, Canada. Following his parents' divorce when he was 13, Gosling and Mandi grew up with their mother Donna.
In a previous interview with The Independent, Gosling noted that growing up in a house full of girls taught him how to “think like a girl.”
“I was literally raised by my mother and my sister. And I feel like I wouldn’t know how to think any other way,” he added.
He considers Mandi his best friend
During that same interview with The Independent, Gosling expanded on his close bond with his sister, noting that she was his “best friend and my hero growing up.”
Speaking with ET Canada at the Barbie Canadian Press Day, Gosling recalled Mandi looking out for him when he was younger. “She was doing all the things all the time. You know, getting me to school safely and then she was the president of that school,” he told the publication. “She had more meetings than classes. It was Barbie land. When I got to [the Barbie] set I was like, ‘This is just like my house.'”
He’s taken her as his date to many events
Mandi has attended many events with Gosling over the years, starting with their first red carpet together in 2006. In fact, this year's Oscars was her second time attending; in 2007, Gosling brought his mom and sister to the Academy Awards when he was nominated for Best Actor for his role in Half Nelson. She also supported him at the Barbie Canadian Press Day in their hometown of Toronto, Ontario in June 2023.
She knew he was meant to play Ken
During the Barbie press tour in Canada, Mandi praised her brother’s role as Ken on the red carpet.
“It felt like such a no-brainer to me,” said Mandi upon hearing the news that her brother was cast as the live-action version of the iconic doll. “No, listen, it’s like, of course he’s Ken!”
"You had to look for the Kenergy, but I always knew it was there,” she told Gosling as he quipped, “Well, she’s my original Barbie.”
She went to college in California
After growing up in Ontario, Canada, Mandi headed to the United States for college. Per her LinkedIn, she studied at Santa Monica College before getting her Bachelor of Arts in journalism at California State University, Northridge.
She’s a producer
Like Gosling, Mandi is in the entertainment industry, however, she primarily works behind the camera as a producer and casting director. She previously played a large role in Pharrell’s 2014 music video for “Happy.”
“We went through a few casting directors before finding Mandi Gosling,” the music video’s directors Clement Durou and Pierre Dupaquier told Fast Company about her work. “She has a background in theater and really got the feel for what we were going for.”
Per her IMDb, she has been an associate producer for several other projects, including Dateline NBC.
