Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have announced a new documentary series about their takeover of Wrexham AFC.

Reynolds (Deadpool) and McElhenney (It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia) — the new owners of the Welsh football club — shared details of Welcome To Wrexham in a video on Twitter.

"Our new show on FX is called Welcome To Wrexham," McElhenney explains.

"A docuseries centred in Wrexham, a working class town in North Wales in the United Kingdom."

"Earlier this year, we became owners of the football club in Wrexham," adds Reynolds.

With such prestigious acting careers and reputations, many were shocked by the pair's decision to co-own the side which plays in the fifth tier of the English football league.

Speaking about the documentary, the club said:

“From Hollywood to Wales, the pitch to the changing room, the front office to the pub, Welcome to Wrexham will track Rob and Ryan’s crash course in football club ownership and the inextricably connected fates of a team and a town counting on two actors to bring some much-needed hope and change.”

In a statement, the duo said: “It is a special day for the two of us to become the latest stewards in the long and storied history of Wrexham AFC."

“Together with the players, the staff, the fans, and the local community, we can now pursue our goal to grow the team and return it to the EFL [English Football League] in front of increased attendances, and in an improved stadium, while making a positive difference to the wider community in Wrexham.”
