Saara Aalto thinks X Factor needs a "break", not a celebrity series
There's going to be more of The X Factor than ever in 2019, but one former finalist thinks the ITV reality show needs a "break".
Simon Cowell quieted fears of ITV resting the format earlier this week by announcing there would actually be two series of both X Factor and Britain's Got Talent airing during this calendar year.
One series of The X Factor will be a celebrity format similar to 2006's one-off The X Factor: Battle of the Stars, and it'll be followed back-to-back by another series pitting the best contestants from the show's past against each other.
It's natural to assume Cowell would want to bring back Saara Aalto for the latter, since she finished runner-up in the 2016 series and is now having success on Dancing on Ice.
Saara might not be so keen, though! Speaking to The Sun, the Finnish singer-songwriter praised Cowell for making changes to The X Factor's format while admitting she thinks the show would be best served with a hiatus.
"I think a change was definitely needed," she said. "I would have had a break and not done it at all as people have seen it so much. I think a break would have been better.
"It's interesting to see how they're going to make this all-star thing work. If they're going to get good people, is it going to be interesting? I have no idea, but I think it's a good thing to change."
When the question of whether she'd like to compete against other X Factor greats from the past was asked, Saara sounded reluctant.
"I just did it two and a half years ago so I feel it's a bit early," she said. "I'm doing Dancing on Ice and I'm just exhausted. I've done so many reality shows now."
We're sure Wagner and Honey G are available, Simon!
The X Factor will return to ITV for two back-to-back series later this year.
