Yahoo News Sadness as small independent Beverley bar and craft drinks shop announces closure
An independent bar and its sister shop selling artisan spirits and craft ales has released a statement announcing its closure.
Northmen Spirit and Bar Seven93 in Cross Street, Beverley, said it will close this coming Sunday, June 30. Thanking loyal customers for their five-star reviews, the owners said they would have a 20% off sale to "clear the cellar" and honor any gift vouchers bought previously.
The owners also implored people to support other independent businesses "so we don’t see them all disappear like we must". The business was close to becoming sustainable, they added, but sadly they "ran out of ideas and money".

Reacting to the post on Facebook, one customer described the bar as a "little oasis in the heart of the town". Another said they would miss the "exceptional selection of craft beers and spirits".
The full statement read: "Regretfully we will be closing the business on Sunday June 30th. Despite advertising in local publications and online, distributing thousands of leaflets and hanging a five metre wide banner over Toll Gavel for two months we just haven’t been able to reach a wide enough audience to ensure the business is sustainable and we have come to the end of our resources to fund the business ourselves.
"We are gutted to have to close Northmen and Bar Seven93 having had some great 5* reviews from customers and with more new people discovering us every day we have felt that we were so close to getting to that sustainable point. But we have run out of ideas and money.
"We know many independent business are having a tough time in the economic climate and if we could ask anything from this post it is please support these businesses so we don’t see them all disappear like we must. We will be honouring all Gift Vouchers and Credit held by our customers, please pop into the BottleShop or Bar to redeem your vouchers.
"The Whisky Club on Sunday June 30th will go ahead, however we won’t be able to offer any new Highland Distillery whiskies but will be revisiting some of the bottles already offered in previous Whisky Club nights. We need your help clearing the spirit shelf.
"All Spirits, wines, mead and beers are now 20% off in the BottleShop until we finally close, please do help us to clear the fridges and shelves.
"The Bar will be open as normal and we’ve lined up a couple of extra beers to see us through to the end – again Waste not Want not, please do help us to clear the Cellar
"We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been a regular visitor over the last 22 months, our amazingly talented brewers, wine makers and distillers, our entertaining storytellers, the Volsung Vikings, Mike Covell, and Graham from Step Through History and our knowledgeable hosts for tasting evenings with special mention to Aurora Distillers who came all the way from Norway to share their amazing Bivrost whisky and gin.
