Sailors from Culdrose highlight deployment heartache for families in new song

A poignant new song that captures the emotional toll on military families during their loved one's deployment has been released.

Little Red Ambulance has once again teamed up with Culdrose Military Wives Choir on its newly released single ‘The Rolling of the Sea’.

The poignant single is a follow-up to the band's chart-topping single ‘Sailing Home for Christmas’ which also featured the Military Wives Choir from Culdrose.

Rolling of the Sea draws upon the personal experiences of Lt Cdr Dave Emery and Lt Cdr Phil Clark, both serving Royal Navy members from Cornwall.

Inspired by Dave’s journal entry on the day he set sail for nearly an eight-month deployment, the lyrics capture the raw emotions of the iconic ‘Procedure Alpha’ conducted by sailors as they depart Port.

The song also highlights the heartache endured by families left behind with their lives on hold until their loved ones return.

Proceeds made from the single will benefit The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC), the principal charity of the Royal Navy. RNRMC is dedicated to supporting sailors, marines, and their families throughout their lives, providing vital resources and assistance.

Since 2007, the charity has funded numerous projects and initiatives that boost morale for those serving today and distributes millions of pounds annually to military charities dedicated to caring for the families, children, and veterans of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

On June 21 Little Red Ambulance and members of the Culdrose Military Wives Choir performed the new single live at The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity’s (RNRMC) major fundraising event of 2024, ‘The Sky’s the Limit Ball’, on board the Royal Navy’s aircraft carrier, HMS Prince of Wales in the HM Naval Base, Portsmouth.

The evening saw more than 500 charity supporters enjoy a Top Gun-themed event and raised an incredible £550,000.
